E-Waste Recycling and Disposal Program

Electronics and hazardous waste, including batteries and CFLs, should NOT go in your trash! We are developing a program to increase awareness of these toxic hazards and institute one or several drop-off locations on Motor Avenue for the convenience of residents and businesses.
Motor Ave Farmers Market

We have developed a local farmers market within the Motor Avenue community in order to provide access to fresh produce and locally made foods and crafts. We are currently holding the market each Sunday from 9am to 1pm, but are working to expand the hours until 2pm. If you are interested in helping out at the farmers' market, please join our Farmers' Market mailing list.
Bike Infrastructure

MAIA is working towards increasing the number of bicyclists in the community, by working to make our streets a safe place to ride a bicycle through installation of new bicycle racks, education and outreach, and a comprehensive bicycle mobility plan for the area.
Member-to-Member Program

MAIA members, businesses and households alike, will receive discounts at participating member businesses simply by showing their MAIA membership card. We hope this program will encourage people to frequent our local businesses and contribute to a friendlier, more connected Motor Avenue community. See the list of participating businesses!
Park and Community Space Development

Well-designed parks and green spaces can add vitality and increase the safety of an area otherwise littered with empty and unused properties. We hope to see more "pocket parks" and other communal spaces, such as an outdoor performance space or skate park, in the community. MAIA is seeking to guide the development of vacant lots in our area in a manner that is sustainable and in line with the goals and needs of the community.
Exposition Line

One of our main goals is to successfully advocate on behalf of the local community in order to mitigate the impact of development along Motor Avenue and guide it in a direction that is in line with the community's needs. One of the most pressing issues in this arena is the Exposition Rail Line that will eventually travel through Palms, opening up exciting new transportation opportunities while also presenting new traffic challenges.
Motor Business Directory

MAIA will be printing and distributing a brochure containing a business directory, map, and other useful information about the neighborhood. We hope to encourage local residents to patronize their local businesses as well as advertise Motor Avenue to other communities, especially as the Expo Rail Line will bring more people to the area.
Community Events

With support from local businesses, we are planning on organizing several community events throughout the year, including:
- St. Patrick's Day Festival - sponsored by Irish Times, our local Irish pub
- "Don't Motor on Motor" Day - including children's scavenger hunt at local stores and restaurants with prizes and gifts; this type of event will encourage residents to get some exercise while getting to know their local
businesses and meeting other community members.
